Dear Dr.
Cline,
I met you back in 1984 (at a Hospital) in Oklahoma.
You
gave a talk at the residential facility with a group of teenaged foster/adoptive
kids. I was a girl who asked you if I could sit on your lap (and you let me!).
At that time I was 14/15 years old and all the staff at Shadow Mountain were
very surprised that I asked that. My parents had just terminated their parental
rights of me after 9 1/2 years of adoption. At that time I was so hungry for
love and affection but the only thing I knew to do was to "spaz out"
(to get restrained) or to run away and have sex with men I didn't know. You
gave me the experience of being held without the "bad" stuff.... I
ended up naming one of my stuffed animals after you - "Foster"... I
know you have spoken with hundreds, maybe even thousands of teens/kids before
and since but you made a huge impact on me. I don't know if you'll read this or
if you'd be interested in talking to me... I'm not looking for counseling or
anything, just checking in with someone who made a big impact on me.
If you like, you can write me back at this email address. If not, I just wanted
to say thank you.
Sincerely,
ST
